The importance of cleansing the right way!

I know it can be a lot but trust me but I promise it will change your skin!!
Cleansing your skin is the basic step but also the MOST IMPORTANT to have glowing and healthy skin and yet is the one that most the people get totally WRONG!!
Our skin is our organ, and in fact, the largest of our system and its main job is to keep all the internal organs and structures protected from the outside world and that can only happen if our skin’s defence system, the skin barrier, is intact!
Every day our skin gets “stimulated “ by pollution, sebum, dust, impurities, bacteria, makeup and on top of that dead cells can get accumulated on the surface clogging the pores making the skin thicker, dull-looking and trapping dirt and oils in the skin and all this mixture can inflame, irritate, sensitive and worsen already existing skin conditions.
Okay .. now.. how often should I cleanse the skin?

Ideally, we need to cleanse our skin in the morning to start the day by removing excess skincare products and oils that have been accumulating during the night and at night to remove the build-up of dirt and impurities and makeup accumulated on your skin from the day.
Also, the skin repair itself at night – remember it is an intelligent organ, so it’s crucial to remove all the substance that can cause inflammation and stress out the skin and on the other hand “feed the skin ” with all the nutrients that our skin needs to REPAIR (keywords for next ) & NOURISH itself to make sure you’ll wake up to fresh looking and glowing skin!

How do I choose the best cleanser for my skin?

First of all… if you don’t know what’s your skin type, I suggest you head to my website and that the skincare test I have prepared to guide you!
let me tell you that maybe after reading this article and perhaps changing your detergent, you might find yourself in a different skin type category than you thought!!
pH, oil production & Rebound!

The market is flooded with the products using the phrase “pH balanced” but do we really know what pH levels are and why it’s important?
Let’s start with what actually is the Ph
The pH scale measures the acidity or alkalinity of a compound.
goes from 0-14 with 7 in the middle – that is neutral.
Our skin is naturally slightly acidic, around 5.5.

(IMAGE OF PH SCALE AND LEVELS)
Now let’s get to why should you even care about pH?
A lot of people have this false idea, pushed by the big cosmetic companies, that the more a cleanser is lathering up, the more it will cleanse your skin.
on the contrary …many detergents on the market are with a very high pH, far from the neutral and very far from the natural skin’s pH ( for face, body or even hair alike ).
Full of surfactant that are very harsh on the skin, this type of products
stripping the skin of its natural oils causing your skin to go into rebound mode, forcing your body into a REBOUND EFFECT.
Btw that happens to your body as well creating dehydration or chest and body acne and to your hair by stripping it leaving them lifeless and without shine but let’s leave hair and body for another blog!

Remember .. the skin is an intelligent organ and you need to literally imagine your skin saying – I’m dry, and I need more oils!
That will lead the sebaceous glands (whose main job is to produce Sebum -the oil of our skin that keeps our skin hydrated and ” waterproof “) to go into hyper-production mode and release way too much sebum that we actually need making us think that our skin it’s oily when in fact is what we are doing to our skin that is causing it to be oily !!!
Do not fear … I have the solution!

All we need to do is to balance the pH of the skin by using a product with a Ph similar to our natural skin’s Ph… 5.5 that will cleanse your skin not leaving it tight and dehydrated but soft and ready to absorb all the wonderful ingredients you will apply afterwards.
Let’s do a recap, it’s important to cleanse the skin to remove all the excess substances and daily grime and it’s crucial to use products that pH is similar to your natural skin’s pH.

DO WE EVEN NEED A CREAM OR A SERUM OR BOTH ?

Well, many people ask me what is difference between the two or if there  is even any. Well …there is and a BIG one!

The biggest difference between a serum and a cream is the formulation and what they are meant for – the Creams are meant to treat the skin type whereas serums are to treat the skin concern.

Creams, lotions and emulsion  basically composed of WATER +FATS +ACTIVE INGREDIENTS ( and a bunch of others ingredients that most of the times are REALLY bad for your skin and heath but let’s leave for another blog   )dispersed  in a solution . The are  made of bigger molecules compare to serums and their the main goal of creams is to replenish the skin barrier to protect the outer layer of the skin, which is the upper layer of the epidermis.

On the other hand, serums, have smaller molecules and no fat content, that is why  they’re able to penetrate deeper within the skin barrier. That’s why they can tackle skin concerns compared to the cream.  In serums, since the molecule is smaller so, the absorption is faster and it goes deep into the skin layers.
